Volunteer Administrator

We want a volunteer administrator to join our team.

Do you have 6-7 hours to spare a week? If you’re someone that enjoys organisation, thrives on paperwork and is a dab hand on a computer. This role is for you.

Literally we want someone to help us make things happen.

We are looking for someone that is friendly and proactive to support the projects/programmes designed to provide support to help people living with a cancer diagnosis to return to a healthy lifestyle and create a self-supporting community.

We’re looking for someone that:

  • Can someone to support our Trustees with that general office administration. This includes organising meetings, minute taking, filing, sending emails, creating document and other general support. You will also liaise with trustees, other volunteers, contractors & trainers and service users, nursing team etc.
  • This is a great opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to supporting people living with cancer.
  • You’ll get a lot of satisfaction knowing you play a vital role in enabling us raise money to fund vital services to provide support in the areas of exercise, nutrition and emotional well-being.
  • You will make new friends and have fun too.

Practical Considerations:

  • Excellent organisational skill
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Good eye for detail
  • Proven ability to work with a wide range of people
  • Supportive and empowering approach to working with others
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing

  • Be able to attend meetings in Huntingdonshire occasionally

 

 

Volunteer Treasurer

Do you have a head for finance? Are numbers and money your thing?

We are looking for a friendly and proactive individual to join our team of volunteers as Treasurer. Do you have a background in accounting / finance, ideally with experience of business administration and fundraising?

We’re looking for someone that:

  • Someone to take the lead in planning and budgeting the charity’s finances.
  • You will be a proactive member of the trustees supporting the development of the charity.
  • You will ensure that the trustees are aware of their financial duties and responsibilities.
  • You will be a signatory of the charity bank account.
  • This is a great opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to supporting people living with cancer.
  • You’ll get a lot of satisfaction knowing you play a vital role in enabling us raise money to fund vital services to provide support in the areas of exercise, nutrition and emotional well-being.
  • You will make new friends and have fun too.

Practical Considerations:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills are essential.
  • Willingness to get involved in all business aspects of the charity.
  • As this is very much a business role, experience of charities is desirable but by no means essential.
  • Computer skills such as Word, Excel, email and Skype.
  • Driving licence.

 

 

Active Lifestyle Buddy Volunteer 

We want a volunteer to join our team of exercise buddies.

Our buddies motivate and encourage people that are undergoing a cancer diagnosis to establish a healthy active lifestyle habit to aid their recovery. This includes making contact with a partner, attending initial assessment and taking part in exercise with your Get Active partner.

Being diagnosed with cancer can be extremely stressful. It not only affects the body but also the emotions.

The HCCN Get Active programme is designed to provide support to help people to return to a healthy lifestyle and create a self-supporting community.

People often signal a desire to join the programme but do not actually attend the initial briefing session. Sometimes this is because of a loss of confidence and/or misunderstanding of what could be involved in developing a healthy lifestyle.

We are looking for people living with a cancer diagnosis, that have an established healthy lifestyle specifically around exercise and want to share the benefits with others.

We want to make it easier for people to engage with Get Active and to develop their understanding of the many things they could do to enjoy a healthy life style.

We’re looking for people that:

  • Have between 30 minutes to two hours per week available
  • Can become buddy for someone living in the Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire area
  • Have experienced a cancer diagnosis yourself and are out of initial treatment
  • To have a well-developed active lifestyle habit not necessarily gained from Get Active
  • Desire to help others develop a good active lifestyle
  • Are able to adapt and change in line with other people’s needs
  • Can encourage people’s achievements
  • Can listen and understand others’ issues
  • Are persistent and supportive
  • A willingness to share, if asked, your personal experiences of cancer and returning to exercise.

Practical Considerations:

  • Between ½ an hour to two hours per week per Exercise Partner
  • For 24 weeks per Exercise Partner
  • Training and support will be available

  • From giving your time you will experience the satisfaction of knowing that your support has encouraged others to stay as healthy as they can. You will also have enabled HCCN to allow access to more people to the Get Active process

 

 

Grants and Trust Fundraiser

We require a Fundraiser to manage the charity’s fundraising efforts through grants and trusts, and to develop and implement our fundraising strategy.

Grants are a vital income stream/source of funds which we rely on to deliver our services. Grant writing is a skill which we value and is currently missing in out team.

We want someone to investigate sources of funds from various places, including grant giving trusts and make applications for funding.

This is a great opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to supporting people living with cancer.

You’ll get a lot of satisfaction knowing you play a vital role in enabling us raise money to fund vital services to provide support in the areas of exercise, nutrition and emotional well-being.

You will make new friends and have fun too.

Practical Considerations:

  • Be able to work from home and attend meetings in Huntingdonshire
  • Have around 7 hours per week.
  • Confidence to approach and build relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, with an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Ideally have experience of grant-making trusts etc.
  • Ability to research and create lasting relationships.
  • Computer skills such as Word, Excel, email and Skype.
  • To be able to work independently.

Corporate Fundraiser

We require a fundraiser to manage and lead the charity’s fundraising efforts within the business and corporate sector.

We want someone to encourage local businesses and organisations to fundraise on behalf of HCCN.

There are a number of ways that businesses can get involved, from straightforward donations to team challenges, from payroll giving to sponsorship.

This will include developing other creative fundraising ideas.

This is a great opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to supporting people living with cancer.

You’ll get a lot of satisfaction knowing you play a vital role in enabling us raise money to fund vital services to provide support in the areas of exercise, nutrition and emotional well-being.

You will make new friends and have fun too.

Practical Considerations:

  • To be able to work independently.
  • Confidence to approach and build relationships with individuals and businesses.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, with an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Ability to research and create lasting relationships.
  • Computer skills such as Word, Excel, email and Skype.

Community Fundraisers

We require fundraisers to help us make the most of our local fundraising opportunities and help us implement our fundraising strategy.

We want someone to organise and stage fund raising activities, such as tombola’s, raffle ticket sales at charity events, sponsored activities, etc. This will include developing other creative fundraising ideas.

This is a great opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to supporting people living with cancer.

You’ll get a lot of satisfaction knowing you play a vital role in enabling us raise money to fund vital services to provide support in the areas of exercise, nutrition and emotional well-being.

You will make new friends and have fun too.

Our volunteers are viewed as our face in the local community.

Practical Considerations:

  • Able to work from home and attend meetings in Huntingdonshire.
  • Participation in local fundraising events such as fetes, etc
  • Enjoy talking to people and raising money.
  • The ability to inspire and motivate others to get involved.
  • To be able to work independently.
  • Computer skills such as Word, Excel, email and Skype.
  • Fundraising experience would be an added advantage.
