HCCN Activities - wellbeing

Complementary therapies are non-conventional treatments that are used in conjunction with standard medical care to improve physical and emotional well-being. When living with a cancer diagnosis, complementary therapies can offer several benefits, including:

Reduced treatment side effects: Complementary therapies such as acupuncture and massage can help manage side effects of cancer treatments such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and anxiety.

Improved quality of life: Complementary therapies can improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve overall quality of life for cancer patients.

Enhanced immune function: Some complementary therapies such as meditation, yoga, and tai chi have been shown to boost immune function, which can be particularly beneficial for cancer patients.

Increased feelings of control: Living with cancer can be overwhelming and can leave individuals feeling out of control. Complementary therapies such as guided imagery and hypnosis can help patients feel more in control of their treatment and their bodies.

Support for emotional health: Complementary therapies such as support groups and counselling can offer emotional support and help patients manage the emotional impact of cancer.

It’s important to note that complementary therapies should not replace conventional medical treatments for cancer, but rather should be used in conjunction with them. It’s always important to speak with your healthcare team before starting any new complementary therapies.
